Division of Microbiology and Immunology
Characterizing pathogenic microorganisms, understanding host defense mechanisms, and developing novel therapeutic modalities are essential for creating methods for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infectious diseases. This division is dedicated to basic research aimed at overcoming infectious diseases. Special focus is placed on elucidating the characteristics of pathogenic microorganisms and host defense mechanisms against them, as well as developing innovative treatment strategies based on new scientific insights. Experts in microbiology, host defense, and biomedical engineering will collaborate to drive interdisciplinary research.
Division of Fostering Required Medical Human Resources
Education of current and future medical professionals on the latest practices and laboratory techniques for infectious diseases is essential for enhancing infectious disease control measures and improving responsiveness in clinical environment. This division develops a wide range of educational programs tailored to clinical needs, with the goal of cultivating the next generation of leaders in infectious disease control and researchers developing new testing technology. In addition, the division will accurately grasp the medical needs required in the future and provide medical human resource education that can respond flexibly and quickly to changes.
Division of Scientific Information and Public Policy
Interdisciplinary and cross-organizational collaboration is essential for sustaining and developing social and economic activities in the event of infectious disease pandemics. This division promotes Evidence-Informed Policy Making (EIPM) and effective information dissemination by collecting and analyzing data essential for risk assessment and policy development. In addition, the division addresses Unexpected Health Issues (UHI), which are not limited to infectious diseases, but are difficult to predict and may have a major impact on health, by integrating approaches from both the humanities and sciences. It thereby contributes to strengthening the resilience of society against future health crises.
